The year-ending Top Eight Tennis Masters tournament is fast gaining momentum at the tennis courts of the Ikoyi Club 1938.
Many of the top seeds recorded a bright start as the competition is fast gaining momentum at the tennis section of Ikoyi Club.
Number one seed in the men’s chart, Chiwente Njokanma defeated Godwin Kienka 6/2, 6/1 just as Mirella Eccli, top seed in the Ladies cadre defeated Nefe Etomi 6/1, 6/1 to boost their chances of making ity to the final stages.
Nene Lawani, number two seed in the ladies Top 8 defeated Oluchi Igwe 6/1, 6/1 while number two seed in the men’s chat, Kalada Kienka forced Eric Uwagwe to retire at 7/5 to move on.
Lolia Kienka, number 3 seed in the ladies also recorded an easy 6/1, 6/1 win over Kathrina Link just as Destiny Da Silva defeated Chinedu Idike 6/3, 6/2 in a highly interesting encounter.
Chairman of the Ikoyi Clun Tennis section, Diran Famakinwa, said he was happy with the progress so far and expressed joy over the standard exhibited so far.
“We know this event is the survival of the fittest and so far it has been very eventful. We also expect that the final stages will be more explosive since this is a competition involving best of the best.
“The players are enjoying themselves and we are certain that the coming days will be more interesting,” Famakinwa said.
The Top 8 Tennis Masters Tournament powered by Megamound ends on Saturday December 13 at the tennis section of Ikoyi Club 1938.
